 Below are poems that were shared at George's memorial service:

 MY HUSBAND GEORGE

That man was a success -

Who had lived well, laughed often

and loved much;

Who had gained the respect of intelligent men

and the love of children;

Who had filled his niche

and accomplished his task;

Who left the world better than he found it;

Who had never lacked appreciation

of earth's beauty

Or failed to express it;

Who looked for the best in others

and gave the best he had.

Thank you, George, for sharing your life with me.

My love forever,

Gert

OUR FATHER KEPT A GARDEN

Our Father kept a garden.

A garden of the heart

He planted all the good things,

That gave our lives their start.

He turned us to the sunshine,

And encouraged us to dream:

Fostering and nurturing

The seeds of self-esteem.

And when the winds and rain came,

He protected us enough;

But not too much because he knew

We would stand up strong and tough.

His constant good example,

Always taught us right from wrong;

Markers for our pathway that will last

A lifetime long.

We are our Father's garden,

We are his legacy.

Thank you, Dad,

We love you.

MEMORIES OF GRAMP

The love I have for Gramp

Will never fade away.

l'll think of him, my special friend,

Throughout each passing day.

l'll walk into the room

And see his empty chair;

Although I know he's resting,

l'll feel his presence there.

The memories of his laughter,

His warm and loving smile,

His eyes so full of happiness,

His heart that of a child.

Memories are forever

Be they laughter or of tears,

Memories I will treasure

Through all the forthcoming years.
